Get To Know Jessica

Name a hidden talent, or one unknown fact about you.

I was a first-generation college student who drag raced snowmobiles to pay for community college. With that and $1,500 my grandfather made through freelance radio repair I was able to attend Kalamazoo Valley Community College and get myself on the path to MSU. I now have a doctorate.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Alex Trebek. Not the host of Jeopardy!. I wanted to be actual Alex Trebek. I also thought somehow that I could just grow up and be a rock star? Like, what is talent - just decide what you want to be and then when you grow up you’re it? I’m still waiting.

Are you named after anyone?

News correspondent Jessica Savitch and my great-grandmother Lucille Stoner who was a firecracker powerhouse of a lady whose name I am honored to bear. My maiden name was See, and I am told I was almost named “Tenna.” I am thankful that did not occur.

If you could only eat three foods for the rest of your life, what would you eat?

Edible Arrangements, tacos, and pizza.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

Periwinkle.
